Summary
The Program Manager for Swim Lessons plays a crucial leadership role in shaping the quality and consistency of swim instruction. Responsible for program growth and the hiring, onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing development of swim instructors and deck managers, this person ensures Program excellence across all operational layers. This is a hands-on role that requires high adaptability, direct teaching, real-time coaching, efficient administrative skills, and a strong ability to develop talent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and cultivate a purpose-driven culture among the swim staff.
- Maintain quality assurance and consistency of swim programming.
- Communicate regularly with the Aquatics Director to align on program goals.
- Mentor and develop Deck Managers as on-deck leaders and liaisons.
- Assist with hiring and conducting interviews for swim staff positions.
- Oversee training for new hires, including onboarding, online learning, and in-water instruction.
- Supervise swim instructors and deck managers through ongoing coaching, scheduling, payroll approvals, and performance
- feedback.
- Monitor and drive program growth through analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Manage and escalate concerns or issues on behalf of the Deck Management team.
- Ensure pool space and lesson schedules are used efficiently.
- Teach swim lessons (minimum 3 hours/week during peak season; 10 hours/week off-season).
- Serve as the bridge between the curriculum, staff, and program families.
- Ensure certification compliance and overall program excellence.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience in Learn-to-Swim or Aquatics instruction and programming.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to motivate, mentor, and develop a diverse team.
- Ability to teach curriculum clearly and effectively to instructors at all levels.
- Proficiency in digital tools such as OneTeam360, Talent LMS, Jackrabbit, and scheduling platforms.
- High adaptability and initiative in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and across multiple sites if necessary.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification (training provided if needed).
